Production
Vodka, Fucking, and Television was produced as a Towson University Department of Theatre Arts MFA workshop in collaboration with the Center for International Theatre Development on October 21-24, 2009. Stephen Nunns directed the performance. The audience was lead into the Dreyer MFA Group Studio, which had been transformed for the event. The set, designed by MFA student Andrea Crnkovic, consisted of a box, only 20 feet by 20 feet, which enclosed both audience and actors. The claustrophobic atmosphere was further enhanced by the overwhelming representation of the detritus of Hero’s life - scripts, trash, liquor bottles - and the isolation of Justin Van Hassel’s lighting design. The three title character each had their own spaces; Vodka (played by Jeanette Isaacson) at the bar, Fucking (played by Andrea Crnkovic) on a chaise lounge, and Television (played by Susan Stroupe) on a large screen television set, thanks to video design by Jessica Hutchinson. Only Hero (played by Nick Bateman) was left to try to find a space for himself in this crowded world. Towson University’s production of Vodka, F**king and Television played to sold-out crowds each night, and even added performances due to audience demand.
