The Plays

The new wave of dramatic writing that has emerged in Russia over the past ten years reflects the experiences of the first generation to reach adulthood after the fall of the Soviet Union and the impact of tectonic political and social shifts on their lives. A new generation of playwrights is now using dramatic writing to share their observations, register their distress and prompt their fellow citizens to engage in discussions about their world. The ten plays featured in our project reflect the voices of significant playwrights from this generation and the fresh, exciting and varied range of theatrical styles and techniques they employ.
