Background

The Project

Our project was designed to help bring new Russian drama to an American audience through the translation, study and production of plays by a new generation of Russian playwrights. The Center for International Theatre Development and the Theatre Arts Department at Towson University, partnered to create a sequence of programs to share this work with students, theatre artists, and the public. New translations formed the basis of cultural exploration and interdisciplinary learning at the university. The translated plays also appeared on stage in a season developed and produced at Towson University. A conference, sponsored by CITD, promoted the Russian plays for potential professional productions, by allowing invited theatre professionals to meet with Russian artists and to view student productions of select plays.
