What does AI mean for the Classroom context?
When we take into account all that we have compiled in the last pages, we have to consider the implications of what it all means for students who use the now popular and easy tools in the classroom. It is apparent that through the use of AI, there is an ongoing debate regarding whether or not it is acceptable to use AI, as it compiles all data, including unlicensed, uncredited original work to come to an acceptable response to a given prompt.
Let's consider how students may use it. Well, the biggest idea or example will simply be using it to generate essays or code for their assignments. While it could be a useful tool to grasp an understanding, the controversy still stands that the student has not credited any of the original works that the AI might have used, and they would not know how to do it either, since AI does not give credit. Besides that, there is also the debate that students are using AI in a way that is not academically sound. Using AI to come across answers or using it to generate entire essays is not academic integrity, and is not only not the student's original work, but also, not crediting sources.
The problem is that the student is commiting both academic fraud, and plagiarism, of the AI tool, and originally from that, the uncredited authors/artists. The problem is still a recent one. As stated before, AI does get dumber with every iteration and use it has, due to the compilation of accumulated data. (Including the prompt responses from users such as students.). Overall, there is heightened controversy regarding the use of AI tools commercially. Its uses are being questioned both legally and academically and we will just have to wait and see where it leaves us all.
