You are required to meet with your First Year advisor in the fall and spring semesters of your freshman year to discuss your academic career and the courses you will take the following semester. The purpose is to ensure that you are knowledgeable about your major and can successfully register for the correct classes. In addition, it allows you the opportunity to discuss campus and community involvement, careers, jobs, resumes, graduate school, etc. in preparing for the future.
To facilitate this, all FYE students have an advising hold placed on their accounts each fall and spring. This hold can only be removed by your assigned advisor. Until this hold is removed, you will be unable to register for your fall/spring classes (there is no restriction on winter or summer registration). General registration begins in early November for spring and early April for fall. The earliest date and time you can begin to register for classes is listed on your Enrollment Appointment in PeopleSoft. If you are part of a special group such as athletes and honors students who have early registration and our scheduled meeting dates occur after your registration date, please contact me.
Please adhere to the following instructions so that your hold can be removed in a timely manner. Don't forget to fill out the required forms and bring with you to the meeting.
- Make an appointment to meet.
- Fill out a curriculum form.
- If you are a computing major, fill out the appropriate curriculum check sheet by marking the semester for current courses or the grade earned in the grade column.
- If you are not a computing major, print out the curriculum required for your major from the online catalog and similarly mark the classes.
- Fill out the registration proposal at the bottom of this page by listing the classes you will take the following semester.
- Come to my office at the appointed time and bring both forms with you.
