Our Story

Mimi's Kitchen brings the warmth and flavors of Italy to the heart of New York. Founded by Barbara Speizio (called Mimi by her family) in 1995, our restaurant has been serving authentic Sicilian dishes using traditional family recipes for over 25 years.

Mimi's father came to the U.S. on a ship from Siciliy to New York in 1918 at 8 years old. He grew up to achieve the American Dream of opening a jewlery shop and later starting a family. Barbara loved to learn to cook from her mother Giovanna, and her recipies are what a majority of the menu is based on. People would visit the Speizio household and beg for Barabara's recipes, and when she became a grandmother she knew her legacy had to be passed down for others to enjoy, although her husband (in the image to the left) would rather keep it secret.
