What is ASCII Art?

ASCII is a form of computer art that uses the characters of the American standard code for information interchange to create images. It is a way to create pictures using the standard keys on a keyboard. The art form originated in the early days of the computer when screens were limited to displaying text. The ASCII code was established in the 1960’s to standardize how to read and present Latin-based alphanumeric keyboard characters.
