Immerse yourself into the world of Surrealism & Fantasy! In this exhibition, you'll see many bright colors, saturated palettes, dreamlike visuals, and slight confusion. As you walk through this gallery, it's highly suggested that you look deeply into each artwork. You'll notice something new/different throughout each piece. All of these artworks have psychological origins and expose the unconscious mind. It is advised to keep an open-mind throughout this exhibit as your imagination should never be or feel restricted. Have fun and allow your brain to run wild!
Before you start, please meet the artists below and show them some love and support! They've worked really hard creating all of these artworks, so give them their kudos.
Rene Magritte was a Belgian artist. He's known as being one of the most prominent Surrealist painters (one of the OGs). His artworks mainly consist of fancy blended horror, peril, comedy, and mystery. Magritte's main symbols involved placing ordinary objects in unusual or unsettling situations.
Wangechi Mutu is a Kenyan-born artist. She creates multimedia work that represents her unique aesthetic and global point of view. She's best known for her collages, where she gathered many of the images from various magazines and old medival illustrations. Mutu would combine these types of media into hybrid figures located in otherworldly landscapes.
Hannah Yata is half Japanese and was born in Gerogia. Her paintings show her deep love for nature and animals. She seeks to "interweave the parallels of the unconscious with the struggle of the natural environment and how it relates to views regarding the body of the woman and that of nature." Yata's use of masks express the many different emotions and characters. Her paintings are surreal and psychedelic combined with tension and beauty, creating mind-altering dreamscapes.
Naudline Pierre was born in Massachusetts and now currently lives in NYC. She uses painting and sculpture to create an alternate reality that's filled with burning landscapes and otherwordly creatures. Most of her inspiration comes from personal life, religious iconography, and medieval and Renaissance works of art. Pierre refreames tradition through a secular and personal lens. Her artworks center around themes of community, transcendence, and transformation.
Matthew Hansel is a painter and visual artist. His work focuses on the paradoxical relationship the human condition has toward the grotesque (both repulsion and attraction). He depicts this tension through his vivid portrayals of inner demons. Hansel's paintings involve creating worlds of heaven and hell, remixing art styles and exotic ideas from the depths of his imagination.
