About the Artist

Mike Mignola, born September 16, 1960, is an American comic book writer and artist. Best known for his work on the incredibly popular Hellboy series, along with spinoffs like B.P.R.D. and Abe Sapien, Mignola is one of the most respected and recognized artists of the modern age of comics.

Mignola's career exploded into the mainstream with Hellboy in 1994. Starring a half-demon half-man hybrid being, the series would soon become a cult classic. The series has inspired 3 major motion pictures to this date, which have garnered mixed reviews. Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), both directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman, were wildly popular with fans. The franchise underwent a soft reboot with Hellboy (2019), a gory R-rated disaster that has been repeatedly nominated as one of the worst movies of all time.

Mignola's unique drawing style, which is now instantly recognizable, has been the subject of many studies throughout the years. English writer Alan Moore once compared his style to that of legendary Marvel Comics artist Jack Kirby, mixed with a fair bit of German Expressionism.

Currently residing in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter, Mignola's work is comercially available worldwide, with Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. still leading overall sales. A fan petition to Mignola, Guillermo del Toro, and Ron Perlman is currently ongoing with the goal of releasing the long-awaited sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), and is slowly gaining steam with the hashtag #releasehellboy3.
