What are The Grammys?
The Grammy Awards is a series of awards that are presented every year in the United States by the National Academy of Recording Arts. The Grammys, as they are commonly known, are to recognize the spectacular work by artists in the music industry.
History
The first presentation of The Grammy Awards were announced by NARAS in Los Angeles, 1959. 28 prizes were given that year. The Winners include Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and the Kingston Trio. The number of awards has increased as more musical genres have emerged. The Grammys are still presented every year, this year hitting the 65th annual mark.
The Gramophone
The gramophones trophies are hand made and assembled by Billings Artworks in Ridgway, Colorado. In 1990, the original Grammy design was reworked. The Trophies are engraved with each recipient's name but are not available until after the award announcements, so "stunt" trophies are re-used every year for the ceremony broadcast. In February 2023, a total of 91 Grammys were handed out at a preshow event held in Los Angeles.
