General Information

The Texas Medieval Association (also known as TEMA) serves medievalists not only throughout the state of Texas, but also nationally and internationally through its conferences and publications. The Association has been active since its inception in 1986 and has sponsored sessions at the annual International Congress of Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, Michigan, since 1988 and at the International Medieval Congress at Leeds, England, since 2004. It holds its annual conference each fall somewhere in the state of Texas. On two occasions TEMA has held its conference jointly with another medieval association, in 1996 with SEMA (the Southeastern Medieval Association) in Waco and in 1992 with MAMA (the Mid-America Medieval Association) in Denton. The 2011 meeting will be held at Baylor University in Waco.

The Association welcomes the participation and membership of medievalists at all levels of expertise. Younger scholars new to the field are encouraged to participate in TEMA, and more senior scholars are urged to organize conference sessions that include scholars at all levels. The general public is also welcome to take part in TEMA by assuming membership in the organization.

Membership in the Association is open to all persons interested in any area of medieval studies. Conferences, projects, and workshops are open to all members in good standing of the Association on payment of any applicable registration fee. Officers are elected at the Annual Business Meeting, which is held during the fall conference.

The annual membership fee is currently $15 for faculty and professionals and $10 for students, payable each calendar year.

Applications for membership should be addressed to Don Kagay, Department of History, Albany State University, Albany, GA 31721.
