About

Kyan Kelly is a 21 year old certified luthier based in Maryland. After working for several years doing sales and repairs at Mike’s Music, he went on to attend his training from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona. He graduated from his program after doing exceedingly well in May, 2024. He apprenticed under renowned luthier Jim Prater at the school in the latter half of his time in the repair program that same year. So far, Kyan has built two acoustic and two electric guitars- unfortunately, one of his acoustics, CT, was irreparably destroyed  during shipping due to UPS's incompetence. Kyan currently works in the final touch-up department at Paul Reed Smith Guitars in Stevensville, Maryland. He hopes to one day work  as an independent builder.

Kyan has had an affinity for music and guitars since his early childhood, largely from his father's influence:

"My love of guitars, more so music in general is something that I was born with and cannot live without. It just so happens that my inevitable interaction with music is expressed through the guitar. My interest in guitar started with my dad and the whole reason I’m doing any part of what I do now is because of his impression on me. He inspired me to take things apart and fix them, solve puzzles and problems, build my skills up, while also supporting my arts and freedom of expression to do what makes me happy and a productive person."
