Title: Perils
of Encryption
Abstract
Our online world has plunged headfirst into reliance on
encryption, but there are subtle and occasionally disastrous consequences.
These consequences can include lack of visibility to most inspection devices,
lost keys resulting in data loss, bad assumptions about the actual risk to data,
and unexpected leaks when the data is not as protected as intended. This
talk reviews some useful cases and lays out guidelines for ensuring that your
cryptographic efforts safely meet requirements.
The Cybersecurity
seminars at Towson are jointly sponsored by the Department of Computer and
Information Sciences and the National Science Foundation’s CyberCorps
Scholarship for Service program.
