Net art is art that is made to viewed only on the internet using one’s computer. The term “net.art” came to be when a Slovenian artist opened an email that had been destroyed upon delivery making it unintelligible. He coined that term and used it to talk about online art. Now today, we have thousands and thousands of people creating net.art for anyone with a computer to see, which is basically everyone!

One notable net.artist is Lorna Mills. When looking at her work at http://www.digitalmediatree.com/sallymckay/LornaMillsImageDump/, I noticed that her pieces all had a similar trend of having a blocky pixelated outline surrounding the gifs, creating a uniform online exhibit. Another artist is Jeremy Rotsztain. One of his projects involved creating images of pets by using several images to generate new images. It’s a bit confusing but the result is very interesting to look at. And last is Mark Napier. His pieces in his exhibit called Shredder a a personal favorite because it simply looks as it sounds, as if Napier put his webpage into a shredder and uploaded the result online. Organization is easy when creating a webpage but creating chaos would seem like it would take a lot of calculated effort to get the desired result.
