The late 90's was a hell of a time to be in Nintendo and Gamefreak's shoes. Fresh off the releases of Red and Blue in 1998, the North American releases of the first pokemon games, the craze coined as PokeMania was in full effect. School yards world wide were saturated with trade offers, pokemon battles, and conversations of secrets hidden in this new world. While this was in full effect, Gamefreak was already knee deep in creating the sequel, the original games releasing in Japan all the way back in 1996. In 1997 Nintendo's 9th "Space World" was taking place. This was simply a trade show hosted by Nintendo for them, and other game creators to show off what they were working on. At this show an early version of those sequels, Gold and Silver, were shown. Not much about it was known until 2018 when an annonymous user posted the ROM for the demo online, unleashing a world of never-before seen work that went into these games.
