netart |
Net art is art that uses the internet as its primary
medium. Since web browsing became popular in the 1990s,
many artists began to create interactive and interconnected pieces of
art. Artists use web browsers, developer codes, scripts, search engines
and other online tools.

Some featured artists within net art are JODI,
Olia Lialina, and Alexei Shulgin. JODI is comprised of
two artists, Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans.
The two artists create their work with the production of
videos and media works that play with technology prevalent
to today. Olia Lialina is most notable for her browser-art
piece ‘My Boyfriend Came Back From The War,’ which is
comprised of black-and-white hyperlinked frames of images
and text that is interactive with viewers. Alexei Shulgin
gained his fame through his performances in which he manipulates
an old computer with Microsoft Windows and an Intel processor to
perform digital versions of pop music while text-to-speech
voices sing the lyrics.
