The Planets!

Our solar system, The Milky Way, has eight amazing planets that all travel around the Sun. Mercury is the closest and the smallest, while giant Jupiter is the biggest! Hover over each Planet to learn more!

Mercury
This is Mercury! Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and zooms around it really fast! It's small and rocky, with super hot days and freezing cold nights.
Venus
This is Venus! Venus is the hottest planet, with thick clouds that trap heat like a giant oven. It spins in the opposite direction of most planets!
Earth
This is Earth! Earth is our home, the only planet we know that has life. It has air to breathe, water to drink, and land to live on.
Mars
This is Mars! Mars is called the Red Planet because of its dusty, rusty surface. Scientists think it might have had water long ago! Mars is also the closest planet to us on Earth!
Jupiter
This is Jupiter! Jupiter is the biggest planet and has a huge storm called the Great Red Spot. It's made of gas and has over 90 moons!
Saturn
This is Saturn! Saturn is famous for its beautiful rings made of ice and rock. It's also a giant gas planet like Jupiter. Saturn's Rings make it the most unique looking Planet in our Solar System.
Uranus
This is Uranus! Uranus spins on its side like a rolling ball and has a light blue color. It's cold and far from the Sun!
Neptune
This is Neptune! Neptune is the farthest planet and has super strong winds. It's deep blue and very chilly, with storms bigger than Earth.

The Stars!

Stars are big balls of hot, glowing gas way out in space. They shine bright, kind of like giant night-lights in the sky! The Sun is actually a star—it’s just the closest one to us, which is why it looks so big and bright. Most other stars are super far away, so they look tiny and twinkly. Some stars are blue and really hot, and others are red and cooler. Stars live for a very, very long time, and go through a whole live process just like us!

Aliens! (?)

As far as we know, Earth is the only planet that can sustain life. But scientists are always looking for signs of alien life on other planets! Aliens are creatures that might live on other planets far, far away in space. Aliens could look very different from us—maybe they have one eye, lots of arms, or even glow in the dark! Or... they might be tiny, like little space bugs! Right now, we haven’t found any real aliens, but it’s fun to imagine what they could be like. Who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll discover we’re not alone in the universe!
