My favorite Hobby

A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements or avocations. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area. A list of hobbies changes with renewed interests and developing fashions, making it diverse and lengthy. Hobbies tend to follow trends in society. For example, stamp collecting was popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as postal systems were the main means of communication; as of 2024, video games became more popular following technological advances. The advancing production and technology of the nineteenth century provided workers with more leisure time to engage in hobbies. Because of this, the efforts of people investing in hobbies has increased with time.

There are various types of hobbies, which can be classified in various ways, including subject matter, degree of time commitment, and social versus solitary nature. The Serious Leisure Perspective of Robert Stebbins identifies hobbies under three sub-categories: casual leisure, which is intrinsically rewarding, short-lived, pleasurable activity requiring little or no preparation; serious leisure, which is the systematic pursuit of an amateur, hobbyist, or volunteer that is substantial, rewarding and results in a sense of accomplishment; and finally project-based leisure, which is a short-term, often one-off, project that is rewarding.

Makeup

My hobby of choice is doing makeup. To me it's like painting a canvas, except the canvas is my face. It feels like I'm transforming into something/someone else. It's hard to explain why I find it so fun, I take a lot of pride in the work that I do and the effort I put into things, so when I do my makeup it's like wearing that right on my face. This also means I love halloween of course, I spend months planning my costumes and makeup looks (I celebrate halloween the whole month). Growing up I would sit and watch my mom and my titi at their vanities doing their makeup, and I always thought they were so glamorous (still are). I used to beg and beg to be able to put on makeup like them, and I'm honestly glad they made me wait and let me be a kid. I used to spend hours watching videos on youtube of people doing their makeup, and I still do now. I remember when my grandmother gave me my first makeup kit, looking back it was terrible, but middle school Hannah felt like she just handed me a treasure chest full of jewels. I can't attest to whether I was good or bad at makeup back then, but I can say that I've had a lot of time to practice. Now I have a better budget and plenty of experience.

This is a look I did for the Kali Uchis concert at the CFG Bank Arena back in September. The tour was for her album "Sincerely", but I themed my makeup around her prior album "Orquideas". She had a baby right after releasing that album so there was never a tour. The album means a lot to me, it got me through some stuff, and for the money I spent on my ticket I can do whatever I want lol.

This was my first stab at doing horror themed makeup. I had a lot of fun doing this just because I got to be messy with it. I've always loved horror media so this felt like a full circle moment for me. My original plan was to wear two contacts but I found out very quickly that I couldn't see well and I still needed to drive my car so I stuck with one.

I did this very recently to go to an event with friends. I'm not good at drawing stars so this was actually a little difficult for me. I think I held my breath the entire time I was doing my makeup. I was really happy in the end with the results, and a lot of other people seemed to as well. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to the makeup so when I woke up the next day I couldn't really open my eye.
