Hi im Fin! My full Name is Dietram Delano von Schilcher II but I prefer to go by “Fin”, I am a graphic design student here at Towson University and I graduate in December of 2024. One thing that most people don’t know about me right off the bat, especially the people I meet in the visual arts field is that I am a devout musician. My siblings and I were all put directly into the arts early on by my grandmother and one thing we all did was choir. By the time I got to Middle and High school I started participating in more professional choirs like All County, All State, and Tenor Bass Demonstration. In 2018 I became even more passionate about music as I taught myself Piano, Guitar, and Bass which became easier when I realized I had heightened pitch recognition. In 2019 all of my friends were applying to college, they all said “I’m studying to be a music teacher” or “I am gonna be part of this orchestra”, all of that sounded unappealing to me. I was a Billy Joel fan and if I studied music at college I wanted it to end me up where he is, but I didn’t see that happening.
Art and Design wasn’t a back up, to me it was my only option. I always drew things with my brother and we have been actively running a successful “art” account on Instagram since 2017. It took a very long time for art to feel somewhat as passionate for me as music and part of that jump for me was joining a band. In March 2023, I along with four other musicians formed the band Miss Mary Rose, and since its formation Ive done the logo, typographic, and poster design. I’ve even led critiques when the band presented logo Ideas which made me truly feel like I was retaining the skills I’ve learned in my four years at Towson. I am from southern Maryland between Anne Arundel and Calvert County. My family is super close-knit as my parents, grandparents, Aunt, and Uncle practically co-raised my siblings and I which Is one of the reasons I picked Towson, I didn’t want to go too far.

For project 1 I plan on creating an exhibition for the art of Ralph McQuarrie and affiliated artists at Industrial Light and Magic. McQuarrie is known well in the film industry for visualizing scifi as we know it today having created the artistic foundations for Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica. His artistry is in his communication of scale, attention to fine details, and everything in between and in this exhibition I will put that on full display.
