Designed for English majors, Writing About Literature is an introduction to the literary essay. It will examine how to write in different genres--fiction, poetry, drama--and such genre issues as plot analysis, character analysis, and patterns of imagery and metaphor.
Students will have to write six to eight essays including an explication of a poem, a character analysis of a short story and a play, and a plot analysis of a short story and a play.
Despite the number of the course, it is intended for students in the early part of the English major to prepare them for the work they must do throughout their careers at Towson.
