COURSE INFORMATION

PREREQUISITES: Admission to the MPW program or consent of the instructor.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

COURSE COVERAGE: The course will focus on the relationships of rhetoric, grammar, and style in professional written discourse and will proceed on the premise that an understanding of structure and punctuation serves as a valuable tool in achieving greater cohesion and clarity both in composition and revision.

COURSE GRADES: Course grades will be based on the following work:

Midterm Examination 20%
Final Examination 20%
Class Work 20%
Two Analytical Papers 40%

The grade for Class Work, the third category above, is based on the quality of classroom participation and of homework -- as well as the timely submission of written homework.

LATE PAPERS: The deadline for outside work is the beginning of class on the due date. Late papers will be penalized one letter grade for each class period that the paper is late.

CLASSROOM DECORUM: During class, you will be expected to have the good manners not to eat, sleep, chat, read extraneous material, leave and re-enter the classroom, or do other things that may distract the instructor or other students from the task at hand. Cell phones should be turned off. During exams, you will not be allowed to go to the restroom, so don't ask.
