NET ART

Net art, short for "internet art," is an artistic practice that uses the internet as its primary medium or platform. Emerging in the 1990s, it leverages the unique properties of the online environment such as interactivity, connectivity, and multimedia capabilities to create artworks that often exist solely in digital form and are experienced directly through the web.

Artists began experimenting with the internet’s potential as a new medium for art. The internet was becoming more widely accessible, creating opportunities for artists to reach global audiences directly without the mediation of galleries or institutions. A notable event in the movement’s inception was the accidental discovery of the term “net.art” in a garbled email that was forwarded to artist Vuk Cosic. This term became emblematic of the collective spirit and identity of the artists working within this new medium.

Some notable net art artist are Heath Bunting, Yael Kanarek, Olia Lialina, and John F. Simon Jr.

ASCII ART

ASCII art is a form of visual art that uses characters from the ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) character set to create images and designs. This art form emerged in the early days of computers and typewriters when graphic capabilities were limited, and it remains a popular form of digital expression due to its simplicity and retro appeal.

My opinion on Internet Art

I think net art is pretty cool and very different compared to normal art. This is something that I would enjoy tapping into and seeing what I can create. I strongly enjoy all the different creations there are in net art and that you can make whatever that comes to mind!
