Hobby

A hobby is considered to be a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements or avocations. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area. A list of hobbies changes with renewed interests and developing fashions, making it diverse and lengthy. Hobbies tend to follow trends in society. For example, stamp collecting was popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as postal systems were the main means of communication; as of 2024, video games became more popular following technological advances. The advancing production and technology of the nineteenth century provided workers with more leisure time to engage in hobbies. Because of this, the efforts of people investing in hobbies has increased with time.

There are various types of hobbies, which can be classified in various ways, including subject matter, degree of time commitment, and social versus solitary nature. The Serious Leisure Perspective of Robert Stebbins identifies hobbies under three sub-categories: casual leisure, which is intrinsically rewarding, short-lived, pleasurable activity requiring little or no preparation; serious leisure, which is the systematic pursuit of an amateur, hobbyist, or volunteer that is substantial, rewarding and results in a sense of accomplishment; and finally project-based leisure, which is a short-term, often one-off, project that is rewarding.

Out of the many hobbies I have one the one I find is the most intresting is CD burning. CD burning is when one writes data such as music or video onto a blank CD with a laser inside of the computer. A main hobby of mine is CD collecting from my favorite bands and artists to play on my silver stereo. However, I wanted to have all my favorite songs on one CD as a mixtape thus inspiring me to begin to burn my own playlists onto blank CD's.

Cd downloading songs and video

Most of my favorite songs are from the 80's so I began making my first burned CD containing 120 seconds of music as that is how many seconds a blank CD can hold. It was a process of selecting about 17 tracks for the playlist and downloading the mp3's from YouTube. Then using an External CD drive that plugs into my laptop I place a blank CD inside and press the burn button on the software. After a couple of minutes the CD is ready to be played in the stereo!

Not only do I burn the CD's but I also design the covers and backs as a real artist would sell CD's for their merch. Sometimes I will draw the cover art or I'll collage an image together to create the cover. I like giving the CD's ablum names with a setlist on the back. I've made many CD's for myself and as gifts for my friends. I enjoy playing with designs to create something special and sentimental not only for myself but the ones I care about.
