Why I chose Graphic Design?

When I was deciding on which degree to get in college, I honestly never considered graphic design. I have always wanted to become an architect, so when I was applying to colleges I applied as an intended architecture major. However, I wasn’t accepted into any of the architecture programs I applied to, so attending Towson University as a graphic design major became my backup plan. I still intend on going to graduate school to get my master’s in architecture, but I have fallen in love with the world of graphic design. I’ve also learned along the way that my bachelor’s in art in graphic design will help me with my master’s in architecture. Even though this wasn’t the original plan, I’m very happy I chose this major and continue to learn from it.

What will you be doing for fun outside of this class?

Outside of class I have a very busy lifestyle that keeps me on the move, but I always try to incorporate some fun into my life. One huge part of my life that I love that can be fun, but also a little stressful is my sorority. When I’m not doing homework for my classes, I’m doing “homework” for my sorority, which include me working as our Vice President of Administration or working in the art committee. Recently, since my sorority is in recruitment season right now, I was asked to paint our Greek letters and a banner for our bid day celebration. Even though I consider this work I have so much fun painting them. Since school and sorority life keep me so busy, I sometimes don’t have much time to paint for just myself anymore. However, this way I help my sorority with decorations and do something for myself at the same time. When I’m finally done with homework and have some free time for myself, I also love to read so I always try and find time for that.

What kind of other responsibilities/jobs do you have?

Some of the other responsibilities I have outside of this class include my job, my sorority, and my family. On the weekends, I try to work at least one day a week at my retail job in Cockeysville, MD, but sometimes I don’t have time because I either have too much homework that week or I have a sorority event. When I’m not doing homework or at work, I’ll most likely be busy with my sorority either at an event or doing the work needed for being the Vice President of Administration. I also try and help out my family at home with either picking my little brother up from school or running a few errands for my parents if they need it.

Ideas for Project One

For Project One, I want to showcase photographs of different pieces of architecture from around the world. This exhibit would act as a way to remember and honor different architects and their amazing accomplishments in the architecture field. This exhibit will be held in the Louvre in Paris, France because of their large galleries and since the Louvre is an architectural masterpiece in itself. Some of the architects, I would want to honor and showcase are Jørn Utzon, Renzo Piano, Fariborz Sahba, I. M. Pei, and many others. The website for this exhibit will be modern and minimalistic, so it doesn’t take away from the amazing pieces of architecture. The colors I plan to use for the website will be white, black, different shades of grey, and possibly blue or another color to make some areas have a pop of color.

Pictures to be included

Jørn Utzon - The Sydney Opera House

Renzo Piano - The Shard

Fariborz Sahba - The Lotus Temple

I. M. Pei - The Louvre
